Accounting Assistant
We are seeking a qualified accounting assistant for great opportunity to work with our dynamic First Nation doing all aspects of finance, accounting and administration duties.

Hupacasath First Nation is seeking a qualified accounting assistant to join our growing Finance and Administration team in Port Alberni.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accounting services to our administration and businesses including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and reconciliations.
Our First Nation Government is involved in businesses of various sizes in agriculture, environmental services, forestry, manufacturing and processing and the non-profit sector.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Process daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly financial transactions into Microsoft and Business Visions accounting software.
Complete bank reconciliations, bookkeeping assignments and other routine account analysis following established procedures.
Prepare and organize relevant working papers/documentation for standard accounting transactions.
Establish and maintain strong communication flow regarding file/task status.
Input client data to Business Visions software
Prepare documentation for more complex transactional accounting requirements.
Train and assist staff with accounting processes to establish consistency, software knowledge, capacity growth etc.
Must be adaptable to the multiple demands of the position and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
Able to work on premise and independently.
Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge
University Degree and/or several years (levels 1-3 years) of professional accounting designation.
1-3 years or more of audit work, accounting and transactional work experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer programs (Outlook, Excel and Word) and previous experience working with Business Visions software considered an asset.
Knowledge and hands on experience of GST/HST and PST filings.
Knowledge and hands on experience of First Nations tax exemptions. Knowledge and hands on experience of payroll taxation filings as required (WCB, other).
Knowledge and hands on experience of First Nations accounting and transactional complexities
High attention to detail.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to prioritize workloads, manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Previous experience working in a public accounting firm is considered a strong asset.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, with extended hours as required.
Valid driver’s licence & reliable vehicle required.
