Data Architect - Toronto Blue Jays


The Data Architect will be responsible for creating and maintaining tools and systems to process, store, access, and display data across the Toronto Blue Jays Business Operations Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):


  • Understand and document current database structures, historical design decisions, format, definitions, limitations and content of currently used external and internal data feeds and applications, and establish future requirements
  • Define and develop data warehousing process, starting with structured and unstructured data, conceiving and designing appropriate data structures, performing ETL processes to house the data in the data structures and exposing the data structures to end users
  • Collaborate with IT resources to create data warehousing capabilities with responsibility of the design, architecture, documentation, and implementation of the data warehouse
  • Maintain and support the data warehouse to ensure integrity, security, monitoring, backup and recovery requirements are met and to correct issues with incoming third party data
  • Develop, optimize and automate data processing tasks




  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of Data Warehousing including demonstrated knowledge about data management best practices
  • Track record of successfully designing and executing data warehousing projects
  • Expertise with MS SQL and relational database design and administration required
  • Experience with cloud-based environments is required (e.g. Azure, AWS)
  • Experience in at least one programming language is required (e.g. Python, Ruby, Perl, C++, etc.)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI), integration services, analysis services and reporting services strongly preferred
  • Conceptual, logical and physical data modeling experience using data modeling tools preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Passionate about working with data
  • Exceptional critical thinker and problem solver
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
