Position Overview: 


Compass Group Canada, Canada’s leading Food and Support Services Company is currently hiring for Housekeeping Associates to perform all aspects of janitorial work in Comox, Courtenay, and Campbell River. The Housekeeping Associate will be responsible for key cleaning duties throughout the hospital such as disinfecting, damp dusting, dry and wet mopping, floor maintenance and finishing, cleaning of washrooms, walls, vents, patient rooms including beds, furniture and soiled linen, regular and biomedical waste collection. This position requires a positive, ‘Can Do’ attitude and the ability to work in a fast paced, physically demanding, and patient centric customer service oriented environment. 


Key Responsibilities: 


Housekeeping Associates will be responsible for all or some the following duties within the hospital: 


Cleaning and maintaining all common areas such as floors, stairs, carpets by performing tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, shampooing, dry/wet mopping, auto scrubbing and floor refinishing including stripping, sealing, waxing and polishing 


Cleaning, washing and maintaining all patient contact items (beds, over bed tables, commodes, chairs, IV poles, lights, bedside tables) 


Cleaning and disinfecting areas and items such as surgical procedure areas, washrooms, operating room tables, stretchers, vents, interior windows, walls, glass, doors and mirrors by washing and damp dusting 


Collecting waste and emptying garbage containers, including sharps and glass from all areas of the hospital and disposing according to proper procedures 


Collecting soiled linen and distributing clean linen according to guidelines 


Stripping and washing beds, making beds according to instructions, collecting and folding linen such as towels, gowns, washcloths 


Removing and re-hanging bedside, window and shower curtains using step ladders 


Performing terminal and isolation cleaning and hazardous spills according to strict guidelines 


Assisting in moving furniture and setting up rooms for events such as patient room cleaning, patient activities and meetings 


Maintaining equipment by cleaning, lubricating and replacing filters, bags and belts 


Keeping current on training and education (WHMIS, Infection Control, housekeeping practices) 


 


Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required: 


Previous housekeeping experience, preferably in healthcare, hotel or commercial cleaning strongly preferred 


Strong time management and organizational skills to be able to manage heavy work load 


Physical ability to perform all aspects of the job, including requirements to lift up to 20 pounds 


Ability to work both independently and in team setting as required 


Good command of English language, both verbal and written; ability to follow written and verbal instructions 


 


Note: A satisfactory Criminal Record Check for the purposes of working with vulnerable adults and children is a condition of employment. Proof of immunizations and Tuberculosis Screening Rest results will be required from successful candidates.
