The HR Labour Relations Manager is based in Brampton and reports to the Director, Human Resources. The HR LR Manager is responsible for providing leadership, LR advice, and consultation across the LR portfolio.   He/she will play a key role in driving forward the HR/LR strategies and initiatives across the organization. The HR LR Manager will work collaboratively with business and HR leaders in all aspects of the collective bargaining and grievance processes.

 

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Technical Operations HR department providing support as a generalist skilled in labour relations and acting as a conduit to provide support on labor relation files within the broader HR team.

 

What you’ll be doing: 

  • The successful candidate will be a key partner in supporting various LR initiatives and strategic HR/LR programs and projects spread across the full portfolio.
  • Lead LR agenda with the business, leveraging relationships and HR/LR expertise to communicate policies and procedures, reinforce Rogers Value and strategic plan and demonstrate alignment between HR programs, business objectives and Rogers’ values.
  • Provide consultation on labour relations issues including providing day-to-day interpretations and administration of collective agreements, supporting grievance and discipline administration and participating as a key member of Company collective bargaining teams
  • Get involved in regional or national HR/LR projects and programs: planning and implementing projects (timelines and milestones) for key initiatives.   
  • Generate and provide information in support of the preparation of bargaining agendas;
  • Analyze and evaluate collective bargaining positions/proposals;
  • Research and benchmark collective agreement provisions in relevant industries;
  • Provide advice and make recommendations following evaluation of positions/proposals and benchmarking;
  • Conduct and coordinate data collection and analysis to fulfill information requirements pursuant to collective agreements and applicable law;
  • Attend negotiation preparation meetings and present findings as required.
  • Generate and provide internal and external labour data to support corporate and external reporting, as well as for evaluation and planning purposes;
  • Continuously maintain and refine Labour Relations databases and applications;
  • Disseminate industry news and developments from various sources (news agencies, subscriptions, magazines) to senior management and industry network from various sources;
  • Build and maintain large databases on industry and market information (includes monitoring and evaluating subscriptions, directories, websites and industry tools);

 

What you have:  

  • Undergraduate degree in related field. Master's degree in business administration or HR would be an asset
  • CHRP designation would be an asset
  • 5-8 years of progressive HR business partner and labour relations experience is a must, including working at a management level 
  • Experience in dealing with labour relations and fostering effective union-management relationships
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively influence and coach to build strong relationships with multiple stakeholders without direct authority
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced and rapidly changing matrix environment, driving alignment and results with/without direct authority.
  • Sound data and analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills with an ability to understand broad complex business issues.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to understand and synthesize labour costing and modeling
