Huckleberry Mines

Huckleberry Mines Ltd.

Huckleberry Mines is an open pit copper/molybdenum mine located approximately 130 km south of Smithers and 86 km southwest of Houston, in west central British Columbia. The mine started commercial production in October 1997. On January 2, 2012 we received approval for the Main Zone Optimization (MZO) Expansion Project from the Company’s Board of Directors and BC Ministry of Natural Resources Operations. The expansion will create more employment opportunities in all areas of the Mine’s operations over the next ten years.

Huckleberry Mines is owned and operated by Huckleberry Mines ltd (HML) which is a British Columbia company, owned by a consortium of Japanese companies (Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, Dowa Mining Co. Ltd, Furukawa Co. Ltd and Marubeni Corporation) and Imperial Metals Corporation.

The mine employs around 260 employees, all year round. Most employees live between Smithers and Burns Lake, BC. Employees are transported to the mine by bus from Houston, BC. Huckleberry has two operating camps that combined can house approximately 375 people. Work schedules vary depending on the department, but the majority of employees work a 4 day on 4 day off schedule.
