Call for Expressions of Interest: Lead Biologist

Laskeek Bay Conservation Society (LBCS) is seeking an individual with a passion for and expertise in terrestrial and marine conservation. The Lead Biologist will work with the organization's Executive Director, Board of Directors and Scientific Advisors to analyze and communicate data collected over 28 field seasons on East Limestone Island (ELI). The Lead Biologist will also be responsible for overseeing data collection and monitoring during the 29th field season of research on ELI. This is a part-time position that will be based out of the LBCS office in Queen Charlotte City, with a full-time field component on ELI between approx. May - July annually.

The Lead Biologist will be responsible for leading the following activities:
Manage the logistics of the camp, including food management; transportation; and equipment operation, maintenance and storage, in a cost-effective manner.
Complete the research and monitoring programs in an efficient and practical way including data entry and the recording of results under the direction of the Science Advisors and LBCS Executive Director.
Ensure all operations of the Laskeek Bay Conservation Society comply with high standards of personal safety and environmental protection.
Inputting and analyzing previously collected data and synthesizing it into a variety of reports and presentations.
Networking with local, provincial, federal and international conservation organizations to enhance overall knowledge and collaboration.
Completing research and monitoring programs (both on land and on the water) in an efficient and practical way.
Providing a safe and rewarding experience for citizen scientists visiting East Limestone Island.
Providing interpretation programs and presentations to the local Haida Gwaii community.

To qualify for this position, applicants should have the following qualifications:
Post-secondary degree in appropriate field of study.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Intermediate computer skills for data entry and analysis within Excel.
Independent worker with strong initiative and a collaborative attitude.
Willing to work creatively in remote locations with minimal resources.

The Lead Biologist will have the following certifications:
Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC)
Department of Transport Restricted Operators' Certificate (Maritime) (ROC(M)) (VHF)
Current Standard First Aid & CPR, although Wilderness First Aid preferred
MEDA3 Marine Emergency Duties (Small vessel basic safety course) preferred
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) preferred
