Project & Job Objectives, Marketable Skills to be gained:

The Quesnel Tillicum Society/Native Friendship Centre is seeking a summer student to assist in maintenance and  administration of the Centre.  This student will work in an environment that will demand both self-direction and teamwork. The Student will work under the guidance of The Executive Director and gain practical and strong employability skills by working closely with Professionals, clients and the public. The Quesnel Tillicum Society Friendship Centre provides a wide range of services to the public and has a Community Hall that is rented to the Public for events and workshops. The Maintenance and Administration Assistant  will assist with co-ordination, setup  and tear down, for Community Events in the  Hall and organization  of workshop  areas. The student will also assist with administration duties.

Description of Tasks:

To carry out assigned duties including upkeep and maintenance of the premises
Performs work according to standard procedure and by building’s operational schedule
Cleans hallways, restrooms, kitchen, stairways and Community Hall
Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, sills, and empties wastebaskets
Replenishes and replaces restroom supplies and light bulbs
Sets up and tears down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting  rooms, and Com- munity Hall
Follows all applicable safety rules and procedures
Assist in reception area, answering phones, transferring calls, taking messages, and greeting clients Candidate Profile:
Full-time returning student in a field related to the position, e.g. social service sector
Interest and/or  skills in the Friendship Centre Movement, community service, First Nations Communities
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent communication skills; written and verbal; fluent in English
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Carpentry and mechanical skills are an asset
Attention to detail, thorough, conscientious, and with a sense of humor
Legally entitled to work in Canada, between 15 and 30 years of age, and a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada
