Rogers is seeking a WAN Network Designer.  You will leverage your Cable Telecommunications knowledge and experience along with your exceptional analytical, written, and verbal communication skills to support WAN initiatives and our internal customers. You will play an important role in shaping Wireline network direction and functionality.  The primary focus of this position is HFC Access Network engineering and HFC lab work.

 

The general focus of this team is ‘Hybrid Fibre Coax’ and ‘Passive Optical Network’ Access network between service platform ports (e.g. DTV, DOCSIS, PON) in the ‘headend’ and customer devices, including customer devices. Team scope of work includes budgeting, cost/scenario modeling, HFC lab, equipment testing and qualification, RFQs/RFPs, Design and Planning Specifications, application rules, guidelines, construction/installation standards, training support, new technology introduction, support for groups such as technology development & strategy, finance, OPE, NI, NOC, Maintenance, Service, Regulatory, publishing Tech Notes - Tech Bulletins - Standards, managing WAN Engineering Zone area.

 

 What you will be doing…

 

·       Engineering support for Network and other department problem cases/RCAs (including technology testing, approval, and support)

·       Engineering technical notes, bulletins, guidelines, standards and specifications.

·       Analyzes, evaluates, tests, plans and/or implements new features, hardware/software

·       Capacity planning and management

·       Conducts detailed phases of major engineering projects, or all phases for projects of moderate scope.

·       Designs, implements or optimizes networks

·       Develops and implements test methodologies

·       Engineers new and expanding systems

·       Identifies technical requirements and plans projects

·       Assists with complex projects, leads phases of complex projects

·       Reviews own work and sometimes others' work for technical accuracy and adequacy

·       Assist decision-making of management on technical issues

·       Lab work as required

What you have….

·       Engineering degree (or equivalent)

·       Minimum of 3 years experience in the industry

·       Carries out varied engineering assignments

·       Understands potential impacts of work on other areas

·       Understands technological developments

·       Is current on technology industry and market trends

·       Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills

·       Good presentation skills and ability to present information on technology matters

·       Ability to complete and present varied engineering assignments

·       Ability to work effectively within teams and independently

·       Understanding of all aspects (e.g. planning, design, construction, maintenance) of ‘HFC’ and ‘PON’ network between service platform ports in the ‘headend’ and customer devices
