Come work with Chatelaine! We are an award-winning, digital-first team with big ideas about what a media brand for Canadian women can be in 2018. We’re looking for a dynamic, energetic person to join our team as Senior Editor. The successful candidate should have at least five years of experience as a handling editor, with a strong digital background and a special aptitude for features. Terrific story ideas, a great ear for display-writing and a sense of humour are key. Reporting to the Executive Editor, this multi-talented journalist can produce daily news stories, engaging opinion and first-person journalism and in-depth reported features across platforms. She or he is a quick thinker, self-starter and an ideas person with a positive, team-focused attitude.


What you will be doing:

  • Assign, edit and produce compelling news, lifestyle content and features across platforms (web, mobile, video, print)
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with talented new writers from across the country
  • Work closely with the Executive Editor and Deputy Editor to grow the audience for Chatelaine’s news, issues and features-based content
  • Closely monitor news and social trends that are relevant to Chatelaine’s audience
  • Occasional writing
  • Liaise with photo and art departments
  • Maintain a network of writers and industry contacts
  • Ensure the editorial team is on budget


What you have:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in journalism or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of editorial experience
  • A strong understanding of the Chatelaine brand and our editorial vision, as well as news and issues that are relevant to our audience of (primarily) Canadian women
  • Exceptional writing, editing, display and proofreading skills
  • Digital experience and familiarity with WordPress, SEO and analytics
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • A proven ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with a creative team and work independently
