Timber West

Stewardship that creates sustainable value.

TimberWest is Western Canada’s largest private timberland company with 325,400 hectares / 804,200 acres on Vancouver Island. The Company also owns renewable Crown harvest rights to 700,000 m3 per year. TimberWest is privately owned by two leading Canadian pension funds, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation ("bcIMC") and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board ("PSP Investments").

TimberWest runs fully contracted harvesting operations and leads the coastal industry in the growing and harvesting of second-growth timber. About 85% of TimberWest’s annual private land logging is done in second growth Douglas Fir and Hemlock stands. The Company is a leader in sustainable forest management and is committed to Vancouver Island communities.

TimberWest is strongly incented to manage its private forest lands with care because we are in it for the long term. That means investment and innovation in the lands through the full cycle of stand management, harvesting and reforestation. Our definition of sustainable forest management includes consideration for our local communities, and stewardship that maintains biodiversity, productivity, and capacity to regenerate, now and in the future.

Committed to communities.

At TimberWest we are committed to Vancouver Island communities. The Company annually provides 1000 direct and 2000 indirect jobs to people who live and work on Vancouver Island.

TimberWest actively seeks new, higher value log markets. Sales to Asia have been critical to TimberWest’s ability to continue to operate profitably and employ local workers.

TimberWest also pursues new investment opportunities, like alternative energy projects, which are positive contributions to local employment and economic diversification.
