The VP, Facilities Development and Operations is responsible for leading a department focused on maintaining and enhancing Dunedin and Rogers Centre facilities to drive achievement of organizational goals. This role will include overseeing the construction of capital projects, ballpark renovations and spring training facilities including renovations in Dunedin and at Rogers Centre.  Additionally, this role will oversee the operation of facilities including capital projects, maintenance, engineering, field conversions and grounds crew. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Facilities Development:

  • Lead construction projects including renovations in Dunedin and Rogers Centre
  • Oversee relationship and act as owner representative between internal TBJ departments, Architect/Engineer and Construction Management firms and third-party stakeholders as necessary
  • Lead contract negotiation process with Architect/Engineer and Construction Management firms as necessary
  • Oversee project budgeting and procurement process ensuring projects are completed within the specified timelines and budgets
  • Collaborate with internal TBJ departments to develop designs, requirements and programming needs necessary for fans as well as TBJ baseball and business operations   
  • Present recommendations and project updates to TBJ senior leadership and ownership
  • Oversee internal project managers responsible for execution of construction projects   

 

 Facilities Operations:

  • Working with the EVP, Business Operations and other senior leadership, determine and direct the implementation of the long-term capital and facilities plan of the organization
  • Evaluate existing facilities management systems and processes to determine needs for improvement, development and implementation of new structures, processes, practices, evaluation methodologies and metrics to create efficient and effective facilities operations
  • Oversee departments responsible for maintenance and repairs of Rogers Centre including facilities, roof and playing field 

 

Cross-Departmental Collaboration:

  • Coordinate across multiple departments including Facilities, Baseball Operations, Information Technology, Concessions, Corporate Partnerships, Marketing, Ticket Sales, and Strategy & Analytics to ensure departmental needs are included in construction designs and capital plans
  • Work with Concessions department, Aramark and other vendors to ensure ongoing facilities needs are being met
  • Oversee relationships with Rogers Centre tenants and the  hotel, to ensure that facilities operations are following contractual obligations and maximizing operational efficiency
  • Work Strategy & Analytics, Finance and Legal Affairs to research, analyze, plan and negotiate agreements with vendors, tenants, government entities and other third party stakeholders 

 

Organizational Leadership:

  • Participate on the business leadership team and provide input into critical organizational strategic decisions
  • Participate on cross-functional initiatives, committees, and strategic projects to provide key insights related to facility construction and management
  • Build and enhance organizational strategic relationships with government and civic organizations, league-level stakeholders, and critical vendors (architecture firms, construction management firms and other suppliers, etc.), and across Rogers Communications
  • Hire and manage department staff members and lead department business planning activities
  • Oversee management of departmental budget 

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor Degree in related field – MBA or related graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum of 8+ years of related experience in construction management, facilities operations, venue management, real estate development or other related fields consultant experience
  • Experience leading construction of new and/or renovated sports facilities, ballparks, stadiums, arena, or spring training facilities
  • Experience working with architects, engineers, construction management firms and other contractors and subcontractors
  • Proven successful change and project management experience required
  • Experience in departmental and/or project budgeting and financial accountability
  • Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Strategic leadership skills required
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
